Scranton Prep Launches New Music Program

Scranton Prep Launches New Music Program

At Scranton Prep, we are passionate about creating spaces where students are given the tools they need to engage deeply with their many talents. To continue pursuing this passion, we are thrilled to announce the creation of our new music program, directed by Mr. Dan Jaggers.

As we look toward the future, we are thrilled to pursue new and exciting opportunities for students to continue these artistic endeavors and more, collaborating with peers and faculty to present performances that mirror Prep’s culture of excellence. We are happy to share some of our current/future initiatives that Mr. Jaggers will be spearheading.

Current:

  • Building a new Chamber Choir to showcase the vocal talent of our students
  • Offering individual/group coachings for instrumentalists here at Prep during the school day within EXCEL/flex periods
  • Student participation in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) district, regional, and all-state festivals
  • Hosting our annual Christmas Concert to highlight the talents of our students and the initiatives of Prep’s new music program

Future:

  • Formation of large group instrumental ensembles such as band, chamber orchestra, jazz band
  • Expansion of arts curriculum to include music theory/history and music elective coursework
  • Partnerships with local performing arts organizations and expanded student opportunities for enrichment and engagement
  • Establishing music as a core component of Prep’s curriculum and cura personalis philosophy

As a bonus, our innovative approach to scheduling allows for our music initiatives to take place during the regular school day in our EXCEL/flex periods. That way, we can offer high-quality music instruction to our students, without interfering with their busy extracurricular/athletic schedules.

Mr. Jaggars remarks that he is honored to be here at Prep and to have an opportunity to meet and work with such a remarkable group of young people, and that he also looks forward to meeting and working with the amazing people at Scranton Prep.
