Eva Kaszuba ’27 Competes in Swimming and Basketball State Competitions on the Same Day

This past weekend, Eva Kaszuba ’27 accomplished an impressive feat, competing in both the PIAA Swimming State Championships and the PIAA Basketball State Quarterfinals on the same day.

Eva began her day at Bucknell University, where she competed in swim preliminaries and earned a spot in the state finals. She then made the hour-and-fifteen-minute drive to join her team in the PIAA State Quarterfinals basketball game.

After helping secure the win, Eva returned to Bucknell for the evening finals, where she placed 5th overall in the 100-yard breaststroke.

When asked how she manages her academics while competing in two winter sports, Eva shared:

Managing this routine requires discipline, time management, and perseverance, as I make time to study, recover, and rest while still performing at a high level in both sports. My teachers and guidance counselor have helped me stay organized and manage my time effectively, while my coaches and teammates continually push me to stay focused and give my best effort. Their encouragement and belief in me, both in the classroom and in competition, have been essential in helping me succeed and grow.

Eva also expressed her gratitude for those who support her, including her parents and family, friends, counselor Mr. Woelkers, sports columnist Joby Fawcett, and the team at Sports Wire.

Reflecting on the day, Eva said:

That day was one of the most incredible and challenging experiences of my life as a student-athlete. It began with a mix of nerves and excitement, my mind locked in on the race ahead—I just needed to hit my time to qualify for finals. But even on the blocks, basketball was in the back of my mind. Would I make it there in time? Could I help my team? Would I bring value? It was a constant balance of focus, pressure, and determination. What stands out most is the moment I left—the entire team, coaches, players, friends, even families, clapping and cheering me on as I ran out. That support meant everything. It fueled me.

Eva’s dedication to her athletics, academics, teammates, and coaches exemplifies what it means to be a Prep athlete, and we are incredibly proud.
