College Counseling
We believe that the college search, application, and decision-making process should be student-focused, incorporating the Ignatian practices of reflection and discernment. We want to help students discover who they are and articulate what they are hoping for from their college experience. We help students identify their strengths, weaknesses, and goals that will allow us to provide practical and timely information about applying to college.

Common Application https://www.commonapp.org
The Common Application is accepted at over 600 colleges and universities in the United States and seven international schools. With one application, seniors can apply to multiple schools. Note to seniors: Please do not start the common application until you are at “Prep Camp” or return to school. Technical issues may cause major problems with sending your transcripts if certain steps are not followed to connect with Naviance which may result in not allowing Prep to send anything electronically.
Scranton Prep’s College Application Prep Camp will allow for seniors to :
participate in a Q&A session about the college application process
complete the necessary steps for the proper navigation of Naviance
complete the majority of the Common Application
organize all college application materials including application requirements, deadlines, and supplements
gain more information about financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and NCAA requirements
There is no cost for the program. For questions , please contact Mrs. Barbara Sweeny at 570-941-7737, ext. 134.

Naviance is the software that Prep uses to send documents (i.e. transcripts) electronically to the colleges and universities to which you apply. Naviance also has various special search features that enable students and their families to get a sense of college requirements and potential outcomes.

Parent Programs and Resources
Join us for a series of evening programs that will be very helpful to you as you navigate the college application process.
- Senior Parent College Information Night: The evening will give us an opportunity to walk you through the college application process, introduce you to Naviance/Family Connection program, and answer questions you may have. Many seniors attended one of our optional “College Boot Camps” in August. Those who did not attend are currently working with their counselor during these first weeks of school.
- Senior Parent Financial Aid Night: A financial aid represenative from a college or university will discuss the FAFSA (Free Application of Federal Student Aid) and the CSS Profile. He will also be more then happy to answer your questions about financial aid. This program will be especially helpful for any parents who are going through the process for the first time. The session should last about ninety minutes.
- Junior Parent College Information Night: An evening program to prepare junior parents for college application procedures.
We hope you can join us for these very special evenings!
