Welcome from the Principal
Welcome to Scranton Prep!
I think that our mission statement does a great job of getting to the heart of what we are about here at Prep:
Prep’s Mission Statement
As a Catholic and Jesuit college preparatory school, Scranton Prep’s mission is to help families form young people who are well prepared for college and who will live lives that give greater glory to God. Accordingly, we seek to form graduates who are intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice. In doing so, we seek to prepare our students for college, for life, and for eternity.
The core of our mission statement is based on a foundational Jesuit secondary education document called, The Profile of the Graduate of a Jesuit High School at Graduation. Regularly referred to as “The Grad at Grad,” this document describes in great detail what we hope for our students, namely that they always strive to fully develop their God-given talents and that they use those gifts for the greater glory of God.
I feel so fortunate to be working in a community that is tireless in its efforts to help our students be great living examples of The Grad at Grad. While we dedicate much energy to the student academic experience here at Prep, I am most proud of how we also persist daily in our efforts to help form our students to be loving, religious, and open men and women who strive to live out their faith by serving others.
Prep students will often call Prep “their second home.” This is largely in part to our community’s commitment to cura personalis, or care of the individual person. As with a family, each individual in the Prep Family is known and loved for his or her uniqueness! It is easy to see this when you walk the halls and fields of Prep. You will see students, faculty, staff, and coaches who all take great pride in the culture of Prep and who all take amazing care of each other. You will see older students reaching out to and supporting younger students; you will see teachers and coaches in lively conversations with students; you will see students laughing with and enjoying the company of each other.
When you are at Prep, you will feel all of this! I can’t wait to enjoy this with you!
Sincerely,
